AI and Human Co-Existence

AI and Human Co-Existence

Artificial intelligence is becoming part of an increasing number of activities that have traditionally depended on human knowledge, skills, judgement, and creativity. At the same time, the ability to generate information, content, and other forms of cognitive output is expanding rapidly.

The implications extend beyond the capabilities of AI itself. As the relationship between humans and AI changes, so too may the conditions under which people learn, work, create, remember, contribute, and make decisions.

AI can produce content faster than humans can consume it. Knowledge and expertise that once required substantial time and effort to acquire can increasingly be accessed through AI. Tasks that previously provided people with opportunities to develop and apply particular skills can also be performed by increasingly capable systems.

These changes raise questions about more than productivity or technological capability. They may alter the relationship between knowledge and learning, capability and skill, information and cognition, and work and human contribution.

The Frame Continuum is interested in how humans can navigate these changes while retaining meaningful opportunities to understand, participate, contribute, and exercise agency.

The question is not simply what AI will eventually be capable of, but how the changing relationship between human and artificial capabilities affects the conditions within which people live, learn, work, and make sense of the world.

This topic connects with several areas of research and interest at The Frame Continuum:

Metanomics

How changing structures affect the way situations are understood, interpreted, and acted upon.

Invariants

What aspects of human capability, behaviour, or value might persist through substantial technological change.

Resolution Layers

How the effects of AI may appear differently when examined at the level of individuals, organisations, economies, or wider social systems.

Human Agency

How people understand and exercise agency, and what conditions enable human flourishing.

This topic examines how AI is changing the conditions under which humans work, learn, think, create, and participate in society. Human Agency explores agency itself: what it is, what enables or constrains it, and how it relates to human flourishing.
